Medicare & Group Therapy: What You Need to Know

New MBS Items: Sessions must be at least 90 or 120 minutes in length to be eligible for Medicare rebates.

Smaller Group Sizes: Medicare now allows group therapy to proceed with as few as 3 attendees, provided 4 were scheduled.

Ten Sessions Per Year: You may access up to 10 rebated group sessions per calendar year, in addition to individual sessions.
What You Need:

A valid Medicare card
-
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP

A referral specifically noting group psychological therapy
You can participate in both group and individual therapy under the same MHCP.
